A purchase order is the document issued by a business whenever it wants to purchase (i.e. order) goods or services from a supplier.

Normally, in business-to-business transactions, a purchase order is the document that a company requires from a customer before it will initiate the sale and delivery of a product or service.

Pre-printed purchase order books can be purchased at the stationery store; or you can have them custom-designed with your own logo and corporate information and printed at your local print shop.

These days, purchase orders can be issued in either paper or electronic form, depending on how the issuing business operates.
