Marketing and sales promotion letters are used to cover a wide variety of different situations when promoting products and/or services to individual customers and/or business clients. It is important to note that these types of letters are generic in style and approach and may apply to many different types of businesses. The only content that would normally change from one sector to another would be the specific terminology for that industry; not the style and approach of the letter.

Dear [Client Name ]:

Try My New Easy Money Customer Referral Program!

As you know, I take a tremendous amount of pride in the level of service and commitment I give to each and every one of my clients. I have developed many close relationships in my role as a tax advisor and believe I possess the expertise and experience that distinguishes me from my peers.

I am now ready to take my practice to the next level and, frankly, I need your help. I have tried many marketing strategies over the years but have found that, without question, the most successful way of acquiring a new client is through a direct referral from an existing, satisfied client, which I believe you to be.

Now before you get nervous that I’m going to ask you for 10 names and phone numbers, let me put you at ease! I get very uncomfortable when my friends and business associates ask me for referrals. I also get a little put off when a stranger cold-calls me out of the blue and tells me that so-and-so gave him my name and he wants to meet with me and discuss the wonders of his product or service. Some people are fine with that approach but I think most folks would admit it is a little unsettling. Consequently, I have developed a system that will allow you to refer someone to me without any anxiety.

Along with this letter, I’ve included business referral cards that you can use to introduce me to your friends, family, and business associates. These referral cards were designed to take the “referral burden” off of your shoulders. Simply hand them out (Along with a gushing verbal endorsement of me, of course!) and you’re done. The postcard will direct the person to my website where they can read my bio, view a video about what I do, and decide on their own whether to schedule an appointment with me. It will also tell them how they can get a free copy of my valuable handbook “How To Deal With the IRS”.

Here’s the best part – I won’t ask you for the name of anyone you refer. In fact, I would prefer that you not offer me their name. If your referral contacts me directly from the website, that’s terrific. I’ll give them the same personal service I’ve given you. If, for whatever reason, they don’t feel a meeting is warranted, I’ll never know. No matter how someone contacts me, when they do, the very first thing I will ask them is how they got my information. If they give your name I will immediately send you the $10 finder fee. If they then decide to become a paying client I will send you the additional $25 sign-up fee!

I am very excited to be offering you an opportunity to be a participant in this new referral system. I suggest that when you have the time you pay a brief visit to my website ( to see what your referrals will be seeing. Please let me know if you need additional postcards.

I want you to know that I am sending you this letter because I consider you an ideal client. I want to continue to work with people like you who are friendly, positive and appreciative. I would therefore ask you to please keep that in mind whenever you are considering a referral.
